FEES + FAQ'S

You'll find the answers to some frequently asked questions regarding what the therapy process will look like on this page. It's normal to have questions and also to want to know that you'll be able to find the kind of support you're looking for. I'm happy to respond to any other questions you might have via a free phone consult.

WHAT WILL WE TALK ABOUT DURING THE CONSULTATION PHONE CALL? WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE CALL?

I ask about what brings you in for therapy at this time and what you hope to accomplish or how you’d know the therapy was working. I let you know about my approach and how I would work with the situation you’re describing. I respond to any questions you might have, including fees and insurance, and then ask if you’d like to schedule. You're welcome to take the time you need to make a well informed decision.

If you'd like to schedule, I send you an email with forms for you to review my documents and also fill out a confidential questionnaire prior to our first session.

You can view my Notice of Privacy Practices here.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING OUR FIRST SESSION?

We take an inventory together of the things you’re having trouble with and find how they link to other parts of your life. I ask about parts of your family and history, if it seems relevant. I’ll start to get a clearer picture of the directions we might head in and I’ll check those out with you.

HOW LONG DO YOU TYPICALLY SEE YOUR CLIENTS FOR?

It depends on what someone might be looking for. For someone with a more acute, situational issue or noticing a dip into feelings of depression, we might work together for a few months. Looking to understand how their behavior contributes to the situations they find themselves into and wanting to navigate their lifestyle differently might be six months to a year, even more.

There are many factors that contribute towards change.

WILL YOU JUST LISTEN TO WHAT I AM SAYING OR DO YOU OFFER FEEDBACK?

I do a lot of empathetic listening within our sessions. Sometimes in our childhoods and even as adults our personal experiences are interrupted, judged, or even changed for us, so I do believe there’s a lot of work done in processing your experience out loud. That said, I incorporate my educational and professional experiences into my thoughts, feedback and questions which I offer to help you expand on your own narrative.

WHAT IF I DECIDE THAT I DON’T WANT TO WORK WITH YOU ANYMORE?

At any time you’re welcome to decide that you’d like to end our sessions. If we have been working together for awhile, I may suggest having a final session to talk through any loose ends that haven’t been addressed. In either situation, I welcome any feedback you may have so that I can continue to learn and grow.

WHAT ARE YOUR FEES?

My fee for a 50-minute session is $180.

Extended sessions are available per conversation.

I have a limited amount of sliding scale spots that are based on your income and ability to pay. Sliding scale spots are discussed upon request. If available, I will ask you what a sustainable rate would be for you based on your needs on an honor based system. I will share with you what range I am able to offer at that time. Typically sliding scale rates are re-evaluated every 6 months to see if criteria and circumstances have changed.

Payment is due at the beginning of our appointment and I accept cash, check, and all major credit cards, including HSA/FSA cards.

DO YOU ACCEPT INSURANCE?

I do not accept insurance, however I can, provide you with a superbill (an itemized receipt) as an out of network provider that can be submitted directly to your insurance company as a claim. Some plans will cover some expenses from out of network providers.

Some questions to ask your insurance company are:

  • Does my insurance plan reimburse for out of network providers?

  • Do I have an out of network deductible? If so, what is it and have I met it yet?

  • How much will my plan cover for out of network behavioral health / psychotherapy?

  • How many approved sessions will my plan reimburse for throughout the year?

  • How can I get reimbursed for sessions with an out of network provider?
